Arrests Slated for Waste “Mafia” Operations

The investigation is overseen by Prokuratora Magdalena Łęska from the Łódź Wydział Zamiejscowy Departamento do Spraw Przestępczości Zorganizowanej i Korupcji prokuratury Krajowej. The actions are tied to a case pursued by the Wydział do Walki z Przestępczością Gospodarczą of the Mazowieckie police.

Key Figures Among the Arrested

One of those detained is 50‑year‑old Piotr R., the president of a waste‑management firm and a sports club executive. According to Podinspektorka Katarzyna Kucharska, a press spokeswoman for the Radom commander, Piotr R. reportedly served as the “brain” of the operation and is suspected of directing an organized crime group.

Within the premises, 10 individuals—including two drivers at the unloading phase—were also detained. The Environmental Protection Inspectorate (GIOŚ) and police gathered evidence detailing waste burial sites.

Charges and Legal Consequences

All parties face accusations of participation in an organized crime network, improper disposal of waste, and fabricating documents to gain financial advantage. Such offenses can carry up to 15 years’ imprisonment.

Details of the allegations have not yet been released. Prokurator Przemysław Nowak, the spokesperson for the Krajowa Prokuratura, stated that information will be provided after the completion of proceedings. The prosecutor has requested a provisional detention for Piotr R.

Historical Context of Waste‑Related Arrests

Similar operations have taken place earlier: in March, 47 persons were arrested in Nawojów Łużycki (woj. dolnośląskie), 29 of whom were detained; in August, 21 members of the waste “mafia” were arrested in Piekary Śląskie.

The current investigation focuses on the alleged collaboration between the detainees and the “black” waste sector, including waste mixing, re‑encapsulation, and fictitious transportation. Fires at the site have been reported, underscoring the dangerous nature of these activities.
